Phonograph
Analog sound playback device, “reads” a graphic representation of sound printed in a disc or cylinder, delivering sound via a stylus and amplifier.
Magnetic Tape
Analog sound playback device, the sound waves vibrate the microphone diaphragm and are converted into a varying electric current, which is then converted to a varying magnetic field by an electromagnet, which makes a representation of the sound as magnetized areas on a plastic tape with a magnetic coating on it.
Compact Disc
Digital sound payback device, consists of an injection-molded piece of clear polycarbonate plastic. During manufacturing, this plastic is impressed with microscopic bumps arranged as a single, continuous, extremely long spiral track of data.
